The global economic crisis has led to a renewed focus on the many risks associated with international trade. This in turn discouraged exporters from using open account trade and importers from using advance payment. While an overall trend towards increased use of open account persists, during times of financial crisis the outcome is greater use of letters of credit (LCs) as a means to mitigate risk for both parties.
